Join me in my studio on Thursday 24 September for an intimate two-hour workshop exploring ways of looking at and responding to the natural world.
I’m a Dutch artist, and my practice begins with spending time outdoors and looking closely at the world around me. In this workshop, I’ll share some of this approach through a series of gentle, playful drawing exercises.
We’ll spend time with natural objects and forms, noticing details, textures and colours that might usually pass us by. Through drawing, we’ll explore what happens when we stay with something for a little longer — even something that might at first seem ordinary or uninteresting. Drawing can give us a reason to keep looking, and in this sense can become almost meditative.
There’s no need to draw accurately or produce a finished picture. No previous drawing or painting experience is needed, and you don’t need to think of yourself as an artist. The workshop is an invitation to experiment, follow your curiosity and see where looking and drawing might take you.
Expect a relaxed and intimate evening of looking, drawing and conversation, with a small group of participants in my studio.
You’ll leave the workshop with a selection of sketches. Tea, coffee and soft drinks will be provided, and you’re very welcome to bring an alcoholic drink of your choice.
Looking forward to seeing you!
