Sweet Pea brings together paintings of the flowers and plants growing in Kimi Zoet's overgrown studio garden. The exhibition forms part of a longer ongoing body of work exploring ideas of wildness in London.
At the heart of the work is a simple question: What does nature look like when it is left to its own devices? Which plants thrive, which disappear, and what can they reveal about resilience, coexistence and beauty? Through close observation of this unmanaged landscape, Zoet invites us to reconsider our cultural ideas of what is beautiful, shifting our attention from the cultivated and controlled towards the overlooked, the unruly and the wild.
Sweet Pea was exhibited at Gallery 475 on Fulham Road, a space that has since become Zoet’s permanent studio.
